SANTA MARIA - Pioneer Park played host to the second autism awareness and resource fair Saturday.
April mars autism awareness month.
About 30 vendors and 20 speakers came to the park to provide support and resources for families dealing with autism.
The event not only provides access to physical resources in dealing with the disorder but social help as well.
Marcia Eichelberger from the Autism Society of America says, "I think when parents have an opportunity to meet other parents who are experiencing similar situations it gives them a feeling of power and support, and I think that parents become really well educated from parents who have already walked this path."
Currently 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism but the rise in cases has also increased the awareness of the disorder.
More events in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County are scheduled for later this month.
