SANTA BARBARA - Officials at UCSB are looking into whether an e-mail, sent to students by a sociology professor, violates university policy.
The e-mail in question included articles and pictures that compare the current Israeli-Palestine conflict to the Holocaust.
Two students filed complaints with the university.
They also brought it to the attention of an international Israeli education group Stand with Us.
The group believes Doctor William Robinson used his authority to influence his students.
Robinson argues he sent the information as part of his course material, with the intent to provoke a balanced debate.
"To say that these two articles on the Israeli invasion of Gaza aren't related to my course is absurd, is simply baseless," says Dr. Robinson. "I think it is a pretext in order for these outside groups to stifle debate on Israel-Palestine, on that conflict."
A committee of the university's academic senate is reviewing the incident.
It will decide whether to take further action.
