SOLVANG - Every Wednesday, the city of Solvang hosts a farmers market. More recently however, Wednesdays are gaining a whole new reputation.

One of the most popular events for Solvang is their annual "Taste of Solvang", but it only happens once a year, in March. Some of the businesses in the area decided once a year isn't enough. So they banded together to create 3rd Wednesdays.

The third Wednesday of every month, merchants within the city stay open a little later and offer special deals. There will be entertainment from 5:30 to 7:00. The farmers market goes until 6:00 but some of the tasting rooms stay open as late as 8:00. Tthe idea is to not only bring in the visitors from out of town but to offer something for the locals too. One the most unique parts of third Wednesdays is the opportunity to kick back in the open air and enjoy a bottle of vino.

Third Wednesdays is still a pretty new event. They've only done two previously with about 150 people at the last one. The merchant hope to keep the ball rolling into the fall and winter months as well. They say if the weather doesn't cooperate, they'll simply move the event and the entertainment inside.
