SANTA BARBARA - After 22 years, a local pet shop is changing the way it does business and saving the lives of animals in the process.
A pet rescue group called "Last Chance for Animals" approached the owner of the Montecito Pet Shop a couple of months ago with an idea.
Now, rather than buying puppies from a breeder to resell in the store, the shop is rescuing dogs of all ages from high-kill shelters and finding them good homes.
"We're leash training them, they've had their shots, their rabies, and they're ready to be adopted,"says Elyse Kuhn, Montecito Pet Shop owner.
In just the past two months, the shop has successfully adopted out six puppies and has saved more than a dozen others, even a few kittens.
"Right now we have two momma dogs and 15 puppies in foster that will be coming into the shop," says Kuhn.
