SANTA MARIA - A nationally known cartoonist based right here on the Central Coast now has a new book highlighting his favorite creations over the years.

For the last twenty five years Leigh Ruben has been creating some "punny" work. "Went from greetings cards to books to newspapers. The first newspaper was the Antelope Valley Press in Palmdale. They gave me my big break back in '84 and it's been a downhill ever since," says Ruben.

His sense of humor isn't just for his cartoons, Ruben became pretty successful. His cartoons can be seen in more than 4-hundred newspapers worldwide.

After creating more than 9-thousand single frame cartoons, Rubin is now releasing his anniversary collection and he's going to share some of his insight with the public.

So what can you expect from his book. "Cheap laughs aplenty, that's what you can get, expect a lot of cheap laughs. You know if nothing else, that's the whole idea, you know the world is so serious why not have some fun with it."

If you would like to meet Leigh Rubin and get his new book, he will be at the Santa Maria library Thursday night at seven o'clock; you must be 14 or older to attend the presentation.
