Lompoc Boy With Cancer Gets His Wish When He Meets SLO Sheriff's Department K9

Posted: Updated:

LOMPOC, Calif. - Little 6-year-old Nathan of Lompoc did not know what to expect when a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputy showed up to his door with his K9 named Jack.

Nathan undergoes chemotherapy and is a big fan of law enforcement.  When San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department officers learned about Nathan, they knew they wanted to give him this special surprise.

Officer Al Barger introduced him to Jack, one of six K9s in the Sheriff's department.  He presented Nathan with a K9 Unit hat and coin.  Barger says they don't get to do things like this very often, but are happy at the chance to do it.

"Being able to make those contacts is fantastic," said Officer Barger, with a smile on his face.  "And if we can help out a little boy and help brighten up his day, that's fantastic."
