Police: Fremont man shoots brother-in-law

Associated Press - February 10, 2010 10:24 AM ET

FREMONT, Calif. (AP) - A Fremont man is in custody after police say he fatally shot his 50-year-old brother-in-law and then tried to flee the country.

Forty-7-year-old Lei Huang was arrested Tuesday at San Francisco International Airport on suspicion of murder.

Fremont police Detective Bill Veteran says Huang went to his brother-in-law's home around 6:40 a.m. and opened fire. The victim, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

Veteran says investigators believe the slaying was the result of "family issues" although he did not elaborate.

A police SWAT team searched the home where Huang was living following the shooting after his pickup truck was spotted outside.

Veteran says Huang switched vehicles before heading to the airport. He had apparently purchased a ticket for somewhere in Asia.
