Experiencing An Earthquake In Your Car

SAN LUIS OBISPO - There are no warning signs for when a major earthquake is going to strike. One might catch you by surprise when you're out on the open road.

That's what happened to Carolyn Jo of the American Red Cross. "I was right over the railroad tracks and my car started bouncing," she said "then I noticed my car was bouncing toward the car next to it."

It was that experience that got Carolyn to join the Red Cross. She says she now knows exactly what to do if a quake strikes.

"Try to pull over, not under a tree or an overpass. If you're on a bridge try not to stay on it; keep driving even if it's only five/fifteen feet get off of that and stay in your car. Make sure there's not a light post or a tree that could fall on your car and wait it out," she told Central Coast News.

Members of the Red Cross aslo suggest people keep an emergency supply kit in the back of your car.
