Solar Panel Installations for Low Income Families

Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS OBISPO - A non-profit group is making it possible for low income families on the Central Coast to go solar.

Grid Alternatives is teaming up with First Solar to install solar panels on a home in San Luis Obispo.

It's part of a statewide effort to help people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford the technology.

Having the panels and installation donated is only the beginning, homeowners say the program also saves them money long term.

Joseph Reichmuth, the homeowner having the installation done, told Your Central Coast News, "The panels were sized to cover about 80 percent of our energy usage and then with some additional reductions on energy savings inside the house, we hopefully can get it down close to one hundred percent."
