BUELLTON - Just north of Buellton sits a little piece of history that is in danger of being destroyed. You may have seen the old building made from two streetcars while driving on Highway 101.
Mullen's Dining Car Restaurant was built in 1945. It was only open for 13 years and is pretty run down now, but the unique design and antiques inside give it it's charm.
The cars used to sit on land zoned for commercial use, but that land was rezoned for residential use. That means even if the cars were restored, they could not be used as a business.
So instead of demolishing the historic building, the owners want to preserve it. They are looking for someone to move it and make it into a museum of sorts. The streetcar diner has about six months before it has to be torn down.
If you would like to contact the owners you can call them at 688-3544.
