Teen Cancer Survivor's Dream Comes True At UCSB

Posted: Updated:

SANTA BARBARA -- A 17-year-old girl from Louisiana who just battled cancer for the third time, had her dream come true on Tuesday at UCSB.

It was Caroline Roy's wish to visit the Marine Science institute at UC Santa Barbara and thanks for Dreams Come True of Louisiana and the University, she and her family were able to make the trip to campus.

Caroline was able to tour the Marine Science Institute and hope to one day attend UCSB because she wants to be a marine biologist.

"Word is that they have a great marine biology program, and I've seen the labs and they're like really like, even the labs are beautiful, I know that's really nerdy to say," Caroline said with a laugh.

"Given everyone who might say I'd like to go to Disneyland, I might want to go see Hollywood but she chose to do something intellectual and pursue her interests," said Mark Brzezinski of UCSB.

Dreams Come True of Louisiana is a non-profit that grants wishes to children with life threatening diseases.

This is Caroline's first trip to California and will go on a whale watching tour with her family on Wednesday.
