GOLETA -- The body of a missing 22-year-old man was found in the ocean last night after his mother reported him missing.
Mark Romasanta's mother last saw her son at her home Saturday around 11:30 p.m. and became worried when she didn't hear from him.
She reported him missing Sunday night telling the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department that it was out of character for him to be gone for that long. On Monday, detectives started searching for him and around 7:30 p.m. a body was found in the ocean near UCSB.
"It was in the early evening that we got a call that two people walking on the beach near Campus Point, saw a body out in the water, maybe 15 feet out in the water," said Drew Sugars, Sheriff's Department spokesperson.
Sheriff's deputies said the last time anyone saw Romasanta was around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
Witnesses said he was leaving an apartment on the 6600 block of Del Playa in Isla Vista.
In the early stages of the investigation, Sheriff's officials do no suspect foul play but detectives at the coroner's bureau are still trying to determine how he died.
