PISMO BEACH - Members of AmpSurf ventured into the ocean for the 1st Annual "Paddle Out For Heroes."
Wounded veterans, New Yorkers and others formed a circle in the water just south of the Pismo Pier. At 7:03am, the exact moment the last plane went down 10 years ago, the surfers tossed roses into the ocean to commemorate the day.
"I'm from New York," Erica Maluski told Your Central Coast News, "so this has been really emotional for me. I was very happy to take part in something being done out here in such a beautiful way."
On the beach, members of Welcome Home Troops supported the surfers by holding American Flags.
