Sister Soldier Project at CP

CAL POLY - There's a unique opportunity for Cal Poly students who are participating in Week of Welcome activities.

They have the chance to help soldiers serving overseas.

The Sister Soldier Project sends care packages to women serving in the Middle East theater.

The catch is, each package requires a declaration form and each form is six pages long.

Because the project has a shipment of 600 care packages coming up, organizers are asking Cal Poly students to come by the Science North building and help fill out forms.

"It's critical because we work on donations only and when a package is returned to us it breaks our heart because we don't always have the funds to send it back out to the same woman or another soldier in need," says project organizer Myraline Morris Whitaker.

The packages contain primarily hair care products that help female soldiers keep their coif in a military approved style.

Workshops are being held on campus through Saturday.

The Sister Soldier Project is in its 5th year. It has sent some 5000 care packs to women.
