SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. - Starting Wednesday, Santa Cruz County will begin the release of minor offenders to avoid overcrowding at the jail. Wednesday they will release 3 offenders but over the next few months they are expected to release about 100 people.
The Corrections Bureau chief says the released inmates will be put on house arrest and will be monitored through GPS. Some inmates may also be forced to do community service instead of going to jail.
