SANTA BARBARA- Pedal Power to drive home a message about healthy school food.
The School Food Tour is a 6,000+ mile self-supported bicycle tour that will promote healthy eating and cycling for both transportation and recreation. Recently, Sara made a stop at Santa Barbara High School.
Sara Salo, the School Food Spokeswoman, hopes to inspire and energize students and communities to create healthier school environments that support student wellness. She will conduct engaging classroom sessions, farm visits and community group bike rides all across the country.
The 29 year old will bike for 9 to 10 months.
The School Food Tour began in Bend, Oregon in August.
An idea that started after Sara interned for the s'Cool Food Initiative. She was so inspired working to empower schools and educate students about healthy choices that she decided to take this new course.
She will bike up to 100 miles a day stopping at schools to sample the food and speak about healthy eating and exercise.
Sara received some funding from the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. 'Team Duke' promotes cancer prevention through healthy choices.
