GOLETA - High school students kicked-off their fall campaign for Santa Barbara-based Direct Relief International.
Students in Santa Barbara started "Youth 4 Direct Relief" five years ago.
Since then the club has spread to many other local schools and have helped raised more than $110,000 dollars.
The club's mission is to encourage kids to raise awareness and fund for DRI while learning about global health.
Student Gregory Cusack says, "This way it sort of makes the campaign more real to them. You know, you can e-mail people, text people, whatever, call them and tell them about this campaign, but you don't really get a full sense for it until you're actually here and you see it, understand it."
DRI is active in 70 countries, and is the only non-profit organization licensed to distribute pharmaceuticals in all 50 states.
