A Toast To Breakfast

Posted: Updated:

SANTA MARIA -   Breakfast really is the best meal of the day and served at school it's even better.

Taylor Elementary feeds breakfast to 450 students a day!

Breakfast that is now fresh, local, and mostly cooked from scratch with whole grain thanks to some inspiration from the s'Cool Food Initiative.

Breakfast is also popular for busy parents who drop off their children on their way to work.

The principal says breakfast is also a bonus for teachers, "When we have our kids eating breakfast we see them in the health office a lot less, we see less complaints of stomach aches, headaches, plus they do better on tests."

We discovered Santa Maria students excited about Oatmeal! This breakfast food gets high marks! It's extremely inexpensive and simple to prepare. It's a better brain boost than those sugary cereals that cause energy spikes and then crashes.

According to a new report by the Environmental Working Group some boxed cereals have more sugar than three chocolate chip cookies!  The consumer advocacy agency says only a quarter of children's cereals meet government guidelines for limits on sugar.

Go for the oats!  Give a toast to breakfast and the s'Cool Food Initiative! Now helping to serve a healthy breakfast and lunch in local schools.  Helping students create healthy habits for life!
