SAN LUIS OBISPO - An energy efficient home on the Central Coast is the symbol of a new program called 'Energy Upgrade California.'
The program is a collaboration between the utilities, local and state governments.
It aims to save homeowners money on their energy bills, make their homes safer and more durable, and to put contractors back to work.
The state has programs that teaches out of work contractors how to install energy efficient upgrades into homes.
"The contractors that are currently in the program are turning jobs away, so there's a lot of demand, so while I can't put a solid number on how many we need, we need more than we have now." Colin Clark from Energy Upgrade California told Your Central Coast News.
The owner of the home that was showcased in a tour, Wednesday, says his energy costs were cut nearly in half after the energy efficient upgrades.
