Energy Efficient Holiday Gifts

Posted: Updated:

CENTRAL COAST - Christmas is only a few days away and if you're still wondering what to get the last person on your list we may have some ideas for you.

In this weeks down to earth Central Coast News shows you how gift giving just got a whole lot greener.

Forget the ugly holiday sweater, the slippers and the toys this year green is in which means purchasing something energy efficient will have you seeing the benefits past the holiday season.

"Of course all of us love those big screen TV's but there are some other products as well that can save you energy and in turn save you money. So when you're looking at different office products, computers, monitors, even paper shredders, all of those could have that energy star label and can save you some money" says Kory Raftery a spokes man with PG& E.

Shopping green can lead to more green in your pocket.

But for some, learning how to maximize the savings of an energy star label can take some getting use to.

"I think that's where the green thing is at for me is that yeah it's out there and I know about it but applying it hasn't quite trickled down," says Leonard Flippen, a Central Coast resident.

But for others, saving energy and helping the environment doesn't just happen around the holidays."I always try to buy something that's reusable or recyclable.  In the end [I want it to be] recyclable so it can be used again," says Richard Hale, another resident.

No matter the opinion green gifts are on the rise. "People are a lot more conscious.  Times are tough and we understand times are tough for our customers so we want to help them save money year round," says Raftery.
