Nixle Alerts Help Police Identify Suspects

SANTA BARBARA - Nixle is already showing promise helping the Santa Barbara Police Department solve crimes.

Police sent out an alert on Friday, asking for help identifying the people who stole a laptop computer.

They're photos were captured by the computer's built-in camera, and those photos were included in the Nixle alert.

Within 90 minutes, the suspects were identified.

Nixle allows agencies to send residents who sign up for the service emergency email and text alerts.

Santa Barbara Police just announced their use of the program on Thursday.
