SANTA MARIA - A special car that's trying to make it into the record books is on the Central Coast.
The Solarworld Gran Turismo is a two-seater sports car fueled by roof-integrated solar panels.
The people behind it are trying to set the world record for the most miles traveled by a car with solar power.
They're spreading an eco-friendly message along the way.
"We want to show that light vehicles, aerodynamic vehicles, and electrical vehicles especially, are very efficient and are the future and work all over the globe," said Tim Skeiia, a German student on the Solar Car team.
The car and team members spent the night in Santa Maria Thursday and will be at U.C. Santa Barbara tomorrow.
