SAN LUIS OBISPO -- One of San Luis Obispo's busiest intersections is getting even busier.
On Wednesday, a Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market opened its doors next to Fire Station 1.
It's near the intersection of Broad and South Streets.
City officials expect more traffic in the area, as more people learn about the new market.
"When my wife and I saw that this was opening up and we knew the quality we said we got to be there on the first day," said Jerry Jones, a customer.
It's located in a new building on Broad Street -- a dream come true for San Luis Obispo.
City officials have envisioned a neighborhood market in that very spot since the 1990s.
We've had different businesses that were interested in opening that market, but today Fresh and Easy has come through," said Vice Mayor Dan Carpenter.
Thanks to Fresh and Easy, dozens of people have jobs and in this stagnant economy, the city's bank account will also benefit.
"The city obviously will be the recipient of some sales tax dollars, which we're very happy to have," said Carpenter.
Fresh and Easy is likely to be a popular place to shop for groceries, given its high profile location.
In fact, before it was built, a traffic study was done and that prompted some changes that were paid for by the developer.
"We have added a median on Broad Street and essentially what that does is it prohibits left turns into the gas station across the street, as well as the Fresh and Easy," said Jay Walter, San Luis Obispo Public Works Director. "We've added a second left turn lane to go on to South Street."
In the coming months, city officials will monitor traffic patters in the area to determine if anything else needs to be done.
