Nipomo CSD Proposes Water Pipeline to Santa Maria

Posted: Updated:

Nipomo - It may soon be easier for people who live in Nipomo to get water.

The city is dependant on the ground water table and that table moves up and down with the rainfall.

As the groundwater table has drawn down the past few decades... it's now threatened by sea water intrusion.

To fix the issue... the Nipomo Community Services District has proposed constructing a pipeline with its neighbor to the South.

Michael LeBrunn, General Manager, NCSD says, "It's a 26 million dollar capital project and it's to build a pipeline to interconnecting the city of Santa Maria's water supply system to the four major water purveyors on the Nipomo Mesa."

The cost for families to install pipes at home would be about 130 dollars-a year.

The cost for each landowner will vary depending on a property's size and type.

Residents will vote on the project beginning next month.

Final results of the balloting will be released in early May.
