PEBBLE BEACH - Dozens of young Lompoc Police Explorers are learning first-hand how to deal with crowds and celebrity hype at a major golf tournament in Pebble Beach.
The Explorers were asked by AT&T to help with other agencies from across California.
Participants in the program are often seeking careers in law enforcement.
The Explorers mainly handle crowd and traffic control, but at the same time, they get to experience all that comes with such a popular event.
"It's cool, we'll go drive by and we'll see a huge crowd, and then there's George Lopez golfing," said Domonique Torres, Lompoc Police Explorer.
"Not only are the kids out there and working, but we also get a donation for our post to help purchase uniforms and equipment," said Lompoc Police Officer David Lamar.
After the tour is over, AT&T officials make a considerable donation to the Lompoc Police Explorers League.
