Five Cities Fire Authority Assessment Decision Delayed

Posted: Updated:

GROVER BEACH - Finding new money to help pay for fire protection in the Five Cities is going to take a little more time.

The Grover Beach City Council has put off deciding on forming either a Fire Protection District or levying a property tax to fund the Five Cities Fire Authority.

The Fire Authority Board says it must develop new revenue streams to maintain currrent services due to budget cuts at the local and state level.

Two members of the Grover Beach City Council say they need more time to study the pros and cons of either funding option.

"We needed more information, so we could understand the cost to us, because that also was not included, there was nothing giving us any indication of how much it was going to cost the city", says City Councilmember Phyllis Molnar, "we needed to understand exactly where that money was going to come from, how it affects the residents and what its going to give us."

The Oceano Community Services District has also delayed making a decision on the new funding source.

The Arroyo Grande City Council will take up the matter at its meeting on Tuesday.
