Parents Urged To Get Preteens Vaccinated

CENTRAL COAST - There's a new statewide effort to get your child vaccinated.

This is Preteen Vaccine Week, a statewide effort to remind families about the recommended and required immunizations for 11 and 12-year-olds.

All incoming 7th graders must now provide proof of immunization against whooping cough before starting school.

There are other immunizations that are recommended, but not required, for this age group, including the meningococcal vaccine, a second chickenpox shot. and the human papilloma virus vaccine series.

It's recommended that children six months and older also receive a seasonal flu shot.
