Santa Maria -People in Santa Maria are continuing to protest a proposed new recycling yard that would built near their homes
It's set for a site at the corner of Fesler and Depot streets in Santa Maria.
People who live in the area are worried about the effects the yard could have on their health.
At a rally Monday they urged the Planning Commission to vote no on the project.
City Council candidate Terri Zuniga says, "You know, maybe if the facility was going on the outskirts of town, people would feel different about it. It's not the appropriate facility right in the middle of the neighborhood, and my guess would be that any of the planning commissioners would not want it in their backyard."
City officials have said plans for the recycling center have been reviewed and they believe the facility is appropriate for the area.
The Planning Commission is expected to vote on the matter tomorrow.
