SANTA MARIA - Goodwill in Santa Maria is starting its Boots to Suits program. It's aimed at getting military veterans back into the work force.
As veterans move from military service to civilian roles, they face several unique challenges which include a strained economy and massive unemployment rates.
Goodwill is hoping to alleviate some of the stress by offering this program, but most importantly, show their gratitude for their service to our country.
Goodwill workforce staff will offer one on one career counseling, employment preparation courses, educational and technical skills classes, as well as access to partner services such as mental health, substance abuse counseling and veteran's benefits assistance.
All services are aimed at helping veterans find meaningful employment.
The Boots to Suits program is giving fifty dollar vouchers to the Goodwill store to unemployed veterans who come in, apply for help and qualify for assistance. The voucher program only lasts until Friday.
If you are a veteran and you are seeking assistance you should go to the Goodwill Workforce Center located at 210 East Enos Drive in Santa Maria. You are asked to bring your discharge papers with you.
Also, if you have some suits you no longer wear, now would be a good time to donate them.
