
MORRO BAY, Calif- Officers conducted a decoy operation at several businesses that sell alcoholic beverages within the city of Morro Bay. The purpose of the decoy sting is to see whether or not employees check for identification and denies to sell alcohol to the minor.
The sting is conducted with an agent of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and an decoy who is under the age of 21. The decoy uses their real identification and age when trying to purchase the alcohol.
According to police, out of the 16 businesses contacted, 8 establishments sold alcoholic beverages to the minor decoy: Valero, AM-PM, Mobil, Lighthouse Liquor, Bella Vinos, Lucky 7 Market, Del Mar Market, and The Port. The clerks at those locations were given misdemeanor citations for the offense of selling/furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor and released at the scene.
The businesses that refused alcohol sales to the minor will be sent appreciation letters thanking them for helping us prevent underage drinking in our community.
