LOMPOC - Lompoc city council will soon discuss establishing a policy to grant local contractors a bonus for public projects.
"One of the potential ways of doing that is offering a percentage discount to a local contractor, which is paid by the city's general fund, but comes back in the form of jobs, payroll and sales tax," says Mayor John Linn.
Mayor Linn points out there have been recent projects that have been awarded to outside contractors, which might have served the community better if a local contractor had won the bid.
"There have been large projects that went to an outside contractor from outside the area, one from Las Vegas, one from Los Angeles and the bulk of those dollars left the area and those were local tax funds."
The city council may action on the agenda item at Tuesday's meeting, which is scheduled to being at 7:00pm at City Hall in the Lompoc Civic Center.
