Downs Headed To Atascadero State Hospital

SAN LUIS OBISPO - Andrew Downs will not be going to prison for killing two women in Santa Margarita on Christmas Day in 2010.

Instead, a judge sentenced Downs to serve a life sentence at a mental hospital.

Earlier this month, a judge in San Luis Obispo County ruled that Andrew Downs was legally insane when he shot and killed Kathy Yeager and Beverly Riley, who were sisters.

A psychiatrist testified that Downs thought the women were part of an evil government conspiracy.

Andrew Downs will be going to Atascadero State Hospital.
