Santa Maria, Calif.- Santa Maria Fire Department responded to a gas leak in the 500 Block of East Alvin Avenue this morning. Three adults and two children were taken to the hospital for treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning. Fire crews discovered high levels of carbon monoxide inside the home. The Gas Company was also called to the scene to assist. Crews suspect the leak came from the forced air heating unit, but are still investigating. Santa Maria Fire says they were not able to locate a working carbon monoxide detector in the home.
