DNA Tests Confirm Identity of Marine Who Died in Car Accident

Posted: Updated:

SANTA MARIA, Calif- Officers have been waiting on the DNA analysis before confirming the identity of a man who was killed in a New Year's Day accident at the intersection of W. Stowell and Black Road.

Monday morning the Santa Maria Police Department finally received the results of the DNA test and are able to confirm that Alberto Javier Moreno was driving the car and died at the scene.

Moreno, who was an active duty Marine, was visiting family in Guadalupe. Police say that he did not stop for a stop sign that was posted at the "T" intersection of W. Stowell and Black Rd and ran his car into the 20'-30' dirt embankment. The car flipped over and landed in a strawberry field just west of the intersection.

County firefighter responded to the scene because the car caught fire. Moreno's body was found inside the car. Officers were able to trace the car back to Moreno but due to the condition of the body they wanted to use DNA testing to get a positive identification.
