Santa Maria - Officials are taking a moment to remind you that May is Bicycle Safety Month. Recently a well know cyclist, Jim Hamlin, was struck and killed by a car near Vandenberg Air Force Base.
He was an active member of the Orcutt Cutters cycling club and was well known in cycling circles across the Central Coast. The California Office of Traffic Safety is urging everyone to be extra cautious and share the road.
Funeral services for Hamlin are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the First Christian Church in Santa Maria.
A "Cutter Jim" Memorial Ride will be held on Saturday morning at 8-am starting from the Albertson's parking lot in Orcutt.
