SANTA MARIA VALLEY – The race for Santa Barbara County 4th District Supervisor appears headed for a runoff in the November general election.
With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Gray is holding onto 39% of the vote with Adam at 36% and veteran political activist and former Lompoc Mayor Joyce Howerton at 22%.
Gray and Adam campaigned on a pledge to reduce the size of county government and restore fiscal discipline to the county budget and its precarious pension liability.
"In my campaign I talked constantly, I think most people know me, I always talked about downsizing", Gray said from her election night party at her home in Orcutt, "I'm excited about downsizing government so as I talk to people and said this is how we downsize and this is what we should do, they were tuned into that."
"We need to just settle down and deal with these problems like they really do exist and stop denying their existence and then we can get past it", Adam said from his front yard at his home in Orcutt, "if you don't start dealing with the problem as they exist, then we're never going to get past them."
The FourtSupervisor District in Santa Barbara County covers portions of the Lompoc Valley, Los Alamos, Orcutt and Santa Maria.
