New Numbers Reveal Winners In Close Morro Bay Races

Posted: Updated:

Morro Bay -- New numbers show the winners in several close races in Morro Bay.  The San Luis Obispo County Clerk Recorder's office is still counting ballots, but tallied enough to show the winners in the Mayor and City Council races.

Those races were still up in the air today, with enough ballots remaining uncounted that the results could have changed, until some new numbers came out.

Jamie Irons has more than 53-percent of the votes and enough ballots have been counted to show he will be Morro Bay's new Mayor. Christine Johnson got enough votes to win a seat on the City Council. This is the first time in Morro Bay since Measure S was approved in 2006 that a candidate got more than 50 percent of the vote.

Vote by mail and provisional ballots from across the county are still being counted. About 11-thousand vote by mail ballots were turned in on election day. ounty Clerk Recorder Julie Rodewold hopes to have the election results certified by June 22.
