SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Santa Maria Police have arrested a man they say attempted to break into a home in the 600 Block of E. Sunrise. It happened at 5:30 Friday evening.
According to police, 44 year old, Michael Hester, went to the house with a loaded Mini 14 semi-auto assault rifle and threatened to kill a person inside and then commit suicide. Hester attempted to enter the home through a sliding glass door, but the homeowner was able to overpower Hester and wrestle the rifle away. Hester then ran away, but police were able to locate him at a nearby restaurant.
Hester was booked for burglary and terrorist threats with a bail set at $750,000. As of right now, no mug shot is available.
