SANTA BARBARA, Calif- Police have arrested a 26-year-old registered sex offender for kidnapping and raping a woman.
According to police, the suspect, Jorge Luis Diaz, and the victim were acquaintances. Last Wednesday Diaz is accused of carjacking the victim and taking her to Los Angeles motel room. Police say Diaz raped the victim and, after she promised not to report the incident to police, drove her back to Santa Barbara.
Diaz was arrested at his home on S. Canada Street. When detectives interviewed Diaz about the crime he said that the victim had gone to Los Angeles with him to go shopping and that their sexual activity was consensual.
The detective on the case said that he found evidence corroborating the victim's account of what had happened.
Diaz was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail for following felonies: kidnapping with the intent to commit rape, rape, and oral copulation. He was also booked on the misdemeanors of violation of a court order and possession of drug paraphernalia.
