SANTA BARBARA – Santa Barbara City College and Cal State University Channel Islands is offering three new bachelor's degree programs at the community college campus.
The two schools started working together last fall and offered a bachelor's in business. Now students can work towards a degree in early childhood education, psychology or business to an MBA in as few as three and a half years.
"We believe in a short period of time we'll double the number of students who get degrees in these critical areas," said Dr. Jack Friedlander, Santa Barbara City College Acting Superintendent/President.
SBCC and CSUCI made the announcement at a news conference on Monday afternoon.
Brian Hunot is in the first CSU Channel Islands' bachelors of science degree program at City College. He said it was a dream come true.
"You never have to drive down to the campus," he said. "So you get to get to attend a Cal State University in Santa Barbara."
Starting this fall, students will earn their degree without the commute or need to relocate.
"It is not necessary to go and seek out opportunity, when it's available right here where it's needed," said Dr. Richard Rush, CSUCI President.
