SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- San Luis Obispo City Officials want to make changes to local ordinances that will affect nightlife downtown and incoming convenience stores that want to sell hard liquor. Douglas Davidson, Deputy Director of Community Development says, "if a convenience store serves hard alcohol they would be deemed a liquor store by our ordinance and then subject to a use permit, case by case review, we notify the adjacent neighborhood and we look at some conditions of approval."
Any new liquor stores will see those changes. Davidson, "anything that we can do to address any impact they may have that would go beyond their store, so limiting loitering, no drinking outside the establishment."
Those conditions the city says could even include shorter hours. Some local liquor stores say they already are heavily regulated said they wouldn't consider opening a new store with more rules.
The City Council will meet tomorrow, and will introduce the ordinance. If it's approved, they will have another hearing July 10th and it would officially be adopted 30-days later.
