Shooting of Santa Maria Officer Was "Justified", New Details Released

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif- After reviewing the case, District Attorney Joyce Dudley says that the officer who shot and killed his fellow officer was justified in doing so.
 
Officer Albert Covarrubias was shot and killed in January at a DUI checkpoint in Santa Maria. He was going to be arrested by his fellow officers for having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl in the Explorer program.

The district attorney's report also revealed in detail what happened the day of the shooting.
 
On January 26, Santa Maria detective told Sgt. Van Meel that a citizen reported a possible inappropriate relationship between a 17-year-old girl in the Explorer program and Officer Covarrubias.
