Fire Take's Over Elderly Woman's Home

Posted: Updated:

SANTA YNEZ, Calif- A Santa Ynez woman's home was devastated early this morning when a fire consumed it. A neighbor noticed the flames around 2am Sunday, and believed the fire to be a vegetation fire but it was her neighbors home in flames!

The fire station had to send out four engines, officials say it was because of all the stuff! It was getting in the way of dousing the fire. Investigators believe it may have started from the dryer. Now this fire may have had a chance of being contained earlier but the elderly woman living at the home didn't have a way to contact the fire department

"With her it was a unique situation because she doesn't have a cell phone there was fire activity in the house and she did the right thing by getting out of the house, your next step would be to go to a neighbor and use their phone but at 2:30 in the morning the neighbors have a gated yard so she couldn't get in, so she ended up going to the hospital," says Captain Mitchell Read from Fire Station 32.

Red cross was notified about this incident and are assisting the woman in a place to stay for the time being.
