Posted: Updated:

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - According to Santa Barbara Police, a woman they believe had a gun and barricaded herself inside her apartment with her two young children has escaped.  After 6pm the SWAT team made entry into the apartment and found it empty, now they're searching for the woman and her children.

Santa Barbara Police say a 9-1-1 call came in about a family argument inside an apartment along the 100 block of North Milpas, just before 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers say once they got to the scene, they were told that a 25 year old Hispanic woman had a handgun and was inside the apartment with her two young children, refusing to come out.

Since then, Santa Barbara Police SWAT Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team has taken up positions around the apartment and negotiators are trying to talk to the woman on the phone and by other means.

So far they have not been able to establish contact with the woman.

The heavily armed SWAT team has surrounded the apartment building and police have sealed off nearly the entire 100 block of Milpas Street while this situation continues.
