AVILA BEACH, Calif.- A four-year-old boy is in the hospital Thursday after being hit by a car in Avila Beach.
The California Highway Patrol says the child was hit on Avila Drive near the entrance of Diablo Caynon just before 5 p.m. CHP responded to the scene and learned that the boy, from Santa Maria, ran into the traffic lane and was struck by a 67-year-old woman from Arroyo Grande. The woman was driving a Mercedes Benz SUV, and was not injured.
The boy sustained major injuries and was transported to Sierra Hospital and then later transported to Cottage Hospital for further treatment.
