SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Speed is being blamed for a rollover crash that happened Friday on Highway 101 near the Santa Maria River Bridge.
It happened around 3p.m. near a construction zone. The two vehicles involved were passing through the Central Coast, when one driver trying to pass, clipped the other, turning the SUV onto its roof. The California Highway Patrol says it could have been prevented.
"Speeds are a problem in construction zones. Generally what tends to happen is you're not familiar with the area or if you are familiar and you come upon a construction zone there may be things that are happening in the construction zone that you need to be more aware of," says Officer Mike Mallory, California Highway Patrol.
One passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
