Aftermath of Complex Fire

Posted: Updated:

ATASCADERO, Calif- Residents of Bordeaux House Apartments were literally running out of their homes Saturday, when 15-20 foot flames scorched their belongings. "I wasn't dressed, I grabbed this t-shirt and my shorts and I got dressed on the patio," says Paula Sisler. Sislers home was one that was fully engulfed by the fire. She barely made it out alive. "The hot water heater it blew up, I mean I was only just out here, right here on the side walk when it blew up."

Now this fire is still under investigation. "Our investigators are showing that it started on a back patio and then spread to the interior of the apartment," says Captain Bill White, from the Atascadero Fire Department.

Sislers home was right below it. "The guys barbeque from upstairs during the fire fell down into our patio," says Sisler. The fire took over 8 apartments and displaced 20 people, leaving only remnants. Sisler even lost her cat to this fire. Sunday people were looking for what they can salvage but many are left with only the clothes on their backs. Fortunately red cross is lending a helping hand to these families.

"They got us three days at motel six, gave us a master card with almost 2-hundred dollars on it, because we had no shoes, so we had to buy shoes toothbrushes, all the toiletries," says Patricia McCann, who has a family of five.

Families are left lost, not knowing what will happen next, only trying to gather what they can to try and rebuild their lives.
