SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY - A San Luis Obispo County hearing aid specialist is under investigation for insurance fraud and pretending to be a doctor.
But the man's attorney says it's a bogus accusation coming from jealous competitors.
The attorney for Aaron Marquis says he client has never professed to be an audiologist or an M.D. in the field of audiology.
He says Aaron Marquis is a Board Certified audioprosthologist or hearing aid specialist with the Advanced Hearing Aid Center in San Luis Obispo.
Marquis is being accused of falsely representing himself as a doctor to clients and fraudulently filing insurance claims as an M.D.
Marquis declined a request for an interview and referred all questions to his attorney who says the investigation by the California State Department of Consumer Affairs for insurance fraud and grand theft by marquis is without merit.
"Mr. Marquis has never advertised that he is a licensed audiologist", says San Luis Obispo attorney Trevor Creel, "he has only performed those procedures that he is trained and licensed to perform, he provides excellent service to his customers and he will continue to do so."
"I want to reiterate no charges have been filed", Creel adds, "we don't expect any charges will be filed."
Creel says he and his client do not where the complaints against Marquis are coming from.
"The only thing we can think of is these must have come from competitors because we know his customers are happy with him/and that he hasn't been doing anything wrong", Creel says, "if somebody is angry with him its got to be the competition."
Meantime the state investigation into claims of insurance fraud and grand theft against Marquis continues.
Through his Advanced Hearing Aid Center, Marquis has clients throughout San Luis Obispo County.
