Probation Sweeps In Preparation For Midstate Fair

Posted: Updated:

San Luis Obispo -- In preparation for the California Midstate Fair San Luis Obispo County law enforcement agencies conducted a probation sweep to ensure public safety. The probation department made nearly 2-dozen arrests last night.

The department teamed up with six other agencies and conducted a sweep across the northern half of the county, checking up on dozens on parolee and probation.

Chief Deputy Robert Reyes with the County Probation Department says, "With the fair starting today a lot of times we like to do these things to ensure that folks are in compliance with the probation and so we can avoid any problems that may occur at the fair with some of the individuals that are on probation and parole."

Local law enforcement wants to avoid any trouble at the mid state fair. The gates opened today and thousands are expected to attend this week and next.

The Probation Department conducts these sweeps several times a year when local police departments see a spike in crime.

Last night's sweep included homes in Paso Robles, Atascadero, Templeton, and San Miguel.  Officers visited 94 north county homes, contacted 52 people on parole or probation, and arrested 23 of them for charges ranging from drugs, guns and other violations.
