SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Hundreds of people in Santa Maria marched Wednesday evening in remembrance of the people who have been killed in officer involved shootings.
Since December, three people have been killed by local law enforcement agents in Santa Maria. Community members wore white, held a candle and marched to City Hall Wednesday demanding the Santa Maria City Council and City Manager take action to reform the city's police department. Family, friends and the community organized the march as a way of saying, "enough is enough."
Elsa Velasco's cousin, 22-year old, Jose Luis Ortega, was one of the three killed by local law enforcement.
"We're walking to end the violence in our community, we are done with it. Violence from everywhere, violence from our police department we are done with it, we are fed up," says Elsa Velasco.
People from all across the Central Coast came out to participate in the march. It started at 7:30pm in the 1300 block of North Broadway and ended at City Hall.
